FOREST GLOW is an exploration of the quiet, transformative beauty of my forest garden in Nimbin, NSW. The series captures the subtle, shifting tones of the forest, inviting the viewer to reflect on the quiet rhythms of nature as they unfold in this intimate landscape. Through this work, I aim to reveal the forest not as a distant, untouched wilderness but as a living, breathing space that is deeply connected to both the passage of time and the ever-evolving cycles of life.
These works together weave a visual narrative that moves between the personal and the universal, asking viewers to slow down, reflect, and reconnect with the natural world. Using layered acrylic washes and glazes, I focus on earthy hues — rich ambers, russets, and ochres — that evoke the warmth and tranquility of the forest during late summer and autumn. The restrained, pared-back compositions aim to foster a meditative experience, encouraging a deeper connection to the natural world. Each painting serves as a moment of stillness within the larger ecosystem, capturing fleeting moments of light, shadow, and color that reveal the forest’s constant yet subtle transformations.
The forest’s life cycle is marked by both visible and invisible processes — those that nurture growth and others that clear the way for renewal. Elements of the forest, often seen as imperceptible or temporary, serve as reminders of the quiet rhythms that sustain the ecosystem. These subtle transformations, which occur under the canopy’s dappled light, contribute to the ongoing regeneration of the forest, where decay and growth are inextricably linked. Through the paintings, I aim to create a visual dialogue about the unseen forces of nature — the quiet, persistent work of time, weather, and decay that sustains the life of the forest.
