11:11 HOPES AND DREAMS
Oct 5 - Nov 3 at Mist Gallery in Cabarita Beach
Hopes and Dreams 11:11 is a new series of works that has been manifesting over time. It’s a body of work that reflects an inner struggle to break free against the push and pull of conformity, familiarity and expectations. Both in life and art, there has been a tension between following a proven path and releasing control; sticking to what I know and breaking down walls to allow new energies to flow. These works have emerged as result of this tension, sometimes struggling awkwardly whilst sometimes emerging effortlessly without inhibition. Each of the paintings has a visceral connection to time and space and forms part of my lived experience in finding my way through new chapters.
My style is evolving as my life is. Surfaces are prepared and foundations are laid. Paint is applied in broader strokes with larger mop brushes or with sponges. Rags are used to remove or soften lines whilst textures are built over time and create a history. Colours are muted with pops of highlight. Painting and being are more melded as one with energy and emotion passing through the application onto the canvas.
From the misty coastal scenes to the rural countryside, every artwork is a step closer to creating a freedom of expression.
